Presentation of air navigation operations

Finavia's air navigation operations provide air navigation services for airports, route services, Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), a meteorological service and services relating to Finavia's public service task. Finavia also provides support services to the airports in Mikkeli, Seinäjoki and Sodankylä, the Ministry of the Interior and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

Finavia's customers include air carriers, military aviation, the Finnish Border Guard, general aviation and aviation schools.

Finavia has applied for a licence from the Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, which is the authority that oversees aviation, and its valid licence has been granted to the end of 2012. In addition, on the basis of this licence, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has appointed Finavia to act as the air traffic services provider in Finnish airspace to the year 2018.

Around 570 Finavia employees work in air navigation services at the airports, in regional air navigation and the centralised national service units (e.g., the technical service unit). Around 300 of them work as air traffic controllers.

In 2008, Finavia's air navigation operations handled a total of 271,509 flights.
