Air Navigation Technician: job description and training
Job Description
Air navigation technicians maintain, service and install technical systems for air navigation at Finavia’s profit centres. These systems consist of radar, speech communication, navigation and weather equipment. The work of the air navigation technician frequently involves safety issues, which means that he or she must understand and take account of various kinds of safety factors.
Training
The training scheme for Air Navigation Services (ANS-technicians) provides the special expertise required for the fitting and maintenance of equipment used in air navigation.
The purpose of the training scheme is
* to ensure the technician has sufficient
knowledge and skill to carry out his or her tasks safely and efficiently
* to ensure that professional know-how is maintained
* to lay the
groundwork for further study
The training scheme consists of the following courses:
The basic course provides the basic information concerning aviation and air navigation equipment. The course consists of theoretical study and practical exercises. At the end of the course the student must provide a demonstration that he or she has a general command of the air navigation sector.
The equipment courses are designed to teach servicing and repair of specific types of equipment.
The systems courses teach the student how to deal with entire systems.
The revision courses are designed to maintain professional skills and are arranged regularly.
As technology advances we also organize other supplementary training in order to maintain the air navigation services technician’s knowledge and ability to work with new equipment and systems.
Entry Requirements and Applications
Training for air navigation services technician’s duties is of a specialist nature, and requires that the applicant has sufficient basic competence in telecommunications technology. The entry requirement is qualification as a telecommunications technician or engineer. The units of the Finavia recruit suitable people for the tasks and subsequently arrange for their training, if necessary.
