Applications, selection and costs
Applications
Air traffic controller training usually begins once a year. The application process takes 5 to 8 months. Invitations to apply are announced in the country’s leading daily newspapers and on the CAA’s Internet site, from which you can also download the application form when the application period opens.
The application must be accompanied by
* population register extract (virkatodistus)
* photocopies of educational certificates
* an account of any possible flying experience
* certificate of completed obligatory military service
* Avia College is not part of the public applications system.
Selection
Some applicants are invited on the basis of their applications to undertake a two part examination. Both parts are eliminatory. The first examination, aptitude test part I, is held in the spring. The second is held about two months after the first examination. This consists of aptitude test part II, examinations in English and Swedish and personal interviews. Those applicants, who have passed entrance examination, will be called medical examination which include doping test. The entrance and medical examination are both separately discard.
Costs
Training for the basic air traffic controllers’ course is free to the student, except flighttraining course (2000 €). Students may be eligible for study benefits.
