Ticket prices on low-cost airlines appeal to increasing number of passengers

The popularity of low-cost air traffic, which started earlier in the rest of Europe, is now also seen in Finland. In Finland, the number of passengers has increased by 25% and traffic by 30% in comparison to previous year. The market share of low-cost airlines has increased to 9% of the total market.

“In 2009, the passenger volumes of low-cost airlines in Finnish airports have increased by over 25% year on year. As much as 9% of all flight ticket buyers chooses a low-cost flight," says Kimmo Holopainen, Business Development Manager, Finavia.

Passengers, including business passengers, are becoming increasingly cost conscious when booking trips. In addition, the supply of low-cost prices has increased and is encouraging people to travel. The share of low-costs flights of all Europe-internal flights amounts to over 20% in Central Europe.
