Lappeenranta Airport sits at the eastern border of the European Union. From Lappeenranta you can reach Saimaa by water and travel the Saimaa Canal all the way to Viipuri (Vyborg). The airport is only a couple kilometres away from the city centre.

updated 03.30 am: Air traffic restrictions remain as before, Mariehamn Airport opens for airtraffic

According to the current forecast, air traffic restrictions remain unchanged, but Mariehman and Turku airports can be opened for air traffic 22 April at 03 am. Turku Airport is open only for 6 hours.

Currently airports at Enontekiö, Ivalo, Kemi-Tornio, Kuusamo, Kittilä, Rovaniemi, Oulu, Mariehamn and Turku are open.

According to the forecast Turku Airport is closing again in the morning 22 April 2010. There is a possibility that opening Helsinki-Vantaa Airport might be possible in the afternoon April 22.

Finavia follows VAAC-London forecast of the dispersion of emissions from the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
