What is CDM?
Airport CDM (Collaborative Decision Making) is a project which aims at improving Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management (ATFCM) at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. This is done by reducing delays, improving the punctuality of events and optimising the utilisation of resources.
- The basic idea in CDM is to work together more efficiently, transparently and to share data in order to make improved decisions based on more accurate and timely information.
- The aim is that all airport CDM partners have the same operational picture, with the same meaning to all involved.
- With enhanced accuracy of different time stamps, or milestones related to aircraft turn-round process, ATC and Apron Control can optimise the pre-departure sequence from the parking stands. This may be crucial when deciding which departing or incoming flight is more important at a given time.
Benefits from improved information accuracy include:
- more efficient turn round processes due to actions predictability (aircraft, vehicle, passenger)
- fewer missed connections
- reduced delays and enhanced resource management
- no misused runway or de-icing slots
- no wasted time waiting aircraft to arrive or being ready for start up.
