Ivalo Airport renovation starts

Finavia will start the expansion and renovation work at the EU's northernmost airport on Monday 19 May. Work undertaken constitutes Finavia's most significant series of investments this year and is valued at EUR 13.5 million.

What will change with the renovation?

Ivalo Airport terminal will be renovated and expanded, parking facilties increased and airside renovated. Terminal renovation will particularly focus on the security check line, the gate area's waiting facilities, the café and shop area, and the customs and passport control facilities.

After the renovation is completed, the travelling experience will be even smoother and more comfortable especially during season. Finavia will also prepare the airport for increasing traffic volumes.

How does the renovation affect travelling?

Finavia will ensure that travelling through Ivalo Airport is as easy and smooth as possible during the renovation.

Air traffic to Ivalo will work otherwise as normal except for August when due to renovation of the runway, the airport will be closed. After a three week's hiatus, the airport will be reopened on Monday 25 August 2014.

There is free bus transportation for passengers to Kittilä Airport with connections to Helsinki during the closure of the airport 4–24 August 2014.

When will the work be finished?

According to the current estimate, the terminal expansion will be completed in spring 2015. Final renovation work will be completed in November 2015. The full value of the investment is EUR 13.5 million.

Part of Finavia's development programme

In addition to Ivalo Airport, investments will be launched this year in Tampere, Turku and Rovaniemi. Moreover, several airports will implement smaller changes to improve comfort and service selection. This year, about EUR 35 million will be invested in network airports.
