Terminal renovations and improvements

 

T2

 

The construction in terminal 2 started in 2009 to integrate the current baggage handling systems into the baggage handling centre that will be opened in 2010. Finavia will use this period to renovate the existing terminal, which was opened in 1969.

 

In August he Departure Hall 3 was closed while the work lasts. The work will be completed in April 2010, when some of the new check-in facilities will be opened and more capacity will be acquired. In April, renovation work for the next part of the terminal will start.

 

 T1

 

Finavia started the alterations to Helsinki Airport's terminal 1 in November 2008. A number of modifications will be carried out in the former domestic terminal to serve international passengers. The work was finally completed at the end of 2009.

The expanding Helsinki Airport

 
  • The airport was opened in 1952.

 

  • The present terminal building was completed in 1969.

 

  • The terminal was first expanded in 1983. In 1993 terminal 1 was opened.

 

  • Since then, the terminal 2 has been expanded four times, in 1996, 1999, 2004 and 2009.
