Annual report of the CAA 2003

Duties of the Air Transport Authority

There are two official units associated with the CAA: the Flight Safety Authority and the Air Transport Authority, whose responsibilities were redefined during the review year. Since the Flight Safety Authority’s remit covers air safety and operating licence matters, the Air Transport Authority has been given other official civil aviation functions.

The Air Transport Authority is responsible for international cooperation and agreements where they do not relate to air safety; for example, international air traffic permits and rights and in particular, duties relating to civil aviation security. To this extent, the Air Transport Authority issues official instructions and guidelines, grants permits and approvals and oversees operations.
