During the review year the Ministry of Transport and Communications
evaluated the environmental arrangements of the organisations
under its charge, with particular reference to the environmental
management working procedures and their scope for improvement.
The ministry will use the results of this evaluation in
drawing up its next environmental programme.
The structure of its environmental system and the centralised
environmental organisation was considered to be one of the
strengths of the CAA. The environment steering group, which
meets every month, was regarded as committed and the cooperation
among those responsible for environmental affairs was seen
to work well. Bringing the environmental management closer
to the overall management of the organisation, as well as
the more effective use of auditing and of management reviews
were identified as areas for development. The organisation
of and funding for the CAA’s environmental affairs
were of a good standard, and activities were comprehensive
and well documented.
The organisation’s internal environmental reporting
was improved with the development of an intranet-based application
for gathering information on the airports. Environmental
reporting for 2004 also includes the external verification
of information for the first time.
