The CAA overhauled its personnel strategy at the beginning
of 2004. The timing was appropriate since the organisation
had just renewed its business strategy at the end of 2003.
The new personnel strategy focused on three main areas.
It has been felt extremely important to develop management
practices and foreman duties, since good foremen are vital
to a properly functioning CAA. The second area has been
the nurturing of personnel resources as an important adjunct
to careful staff recruitment and selection and the preservation
of staff skills within the organisation.
The third strand has been the emphasis on promoting initiative,
personal responsibility and a service mentality among staff.
The central idea has been to nurture a spirit of customer
service throughout the workforce, backed up by a more effective
use of bonus systems.
The personnel strategy underpins the business strategy
and will be updated as the business strategy progesses in
future.
