In March 2004 the European Union parliament and council
approved a package of four EU regulations for the control
of joint European airspace, known as the Single European
Sky (SES). The purpose of the SES is to optimise airspace
use in order to minimise congestion and delays whilst improving
airspace safety and efficiency.
SES is reflected in the systems and equipment used by the
Finnish CAA air navigation services, where standards continue
to be harmonised. This is to ensure the highest possible
compatibility between the systems and equipment in use among
the various EU states. An example of this is the Eurocat
system adopted by the ANS centre during the review year.
