The objectives for the current year are strict. Financially
we are aiming for a 19 million euro profit without increasing
our charges, yet we wish to retain our previous standards
of service. In addition we are laying the groundwork for
the disengagement of the Flight Safety Authority from the
CAA into a separate, government funded body in accordance
with government plans. This will take place at the beginning
of 2006. Having a separate aviation authority will clarify
organisational structures and remove any unnecessary suspicions
of mutual interdependence between official and commercial
activities. The reform will cost society almost 4 million
euros more than the current arrangement. Debate will surely
continue over funding methods, though usually it is the
client who pays.
Our 53 million euro investment programme for 2005 mainly
covers maintenance-type projects, the largest of which is
the repair work on the main runway at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
Thanks to anticipatory measures taken last year, this is
unlikely to cause any substantial traffic delays.
