In accordance with aims set out by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Flight Safety Authority takes care that Finnish air safety is of an internationally high standard. Despite the growth in air traffic, flying is still a safe form of travel.

No commercial aviation accidents occurred in Finland during 2004. There were two serious incidents.

Income for the Flight Safety Authority consists mainly of payments for official duties as defined by Ministry of Transport and Communications statute. Income for the Flight Safety Authority in 2004 amounted to 933,000 euros. Operational expenses came to 6,840,000 euros. The deficit on official activities is covered from earnings from the Civil Aviation Administration’s commercial operations.
