BLUE1 EXCELS IN DOMESTIC TRAFFIC
Airline market shares underwent change during the year. Finnair and Aero held a market share of 63 per cent of all passengers, which was 5 per cent lower than in 2004. Blue1 in conjunction with SAS raised its share from 12 per cent to 15 per cent. Blue1 distinguished itself particularly well in domestic transport, more than doubling its passenger numbers (+114 %).
The ten biggest airlines in Finland in terms of passenger numbers in 2005 were Finnair and Aero, Blue1 and SAS, FinnComm and Golden Air, Lufthansa, Ryanair, KLM, Air Finland, British Airways, Fly Me and Malev. During the year, Fly Me rose from 15th place to 9th, having increased its passenger volume by 86 per cent over 2004’s level.
In 2005 a number of airlines announced significant aircraft purchases or set about overhauling their fl eets. Finnair began operating its first Embraer 170 aeroplanes and announced major aircraft purchases for the coming years. FinnComm Airlines bought 8 new ATR42 planes and had put the first one into service by the end of the year.
