AIR TRANSPORT AUTHORITY
AIR TRAFFIC RELATIONS WITH OTHER COUNTRIES
As the country’s official aviation body, the CAA has participated in Air Services consultations and negotiations with other countries. In addition, the CAA has taken care of cooperation with international official bodies.
Air transport within the EU has been deregulated to the extent that the airlines of EU countries may freely practice aviation within the EU area. However, for traffi c flying from Finland beyond the EU area there needs to be an Air Services Agreement for scheduled traffic with the destination country. By the end of 2005 Finland had air traffic agreements in place with 32 countries outside the EU.
During the review year Finland held negotiations particularly with Thailand, Chile, South Korea and Singapore. With the exception of South Korea, the results of these negotiations were extremely liberal and traffic capacity restrictions were abolished. Even with South Korea it was possible to agree on extra weekly flights.
