OVERFLIGHTS INCREASE

Overflights have been increasing throughout the 21st century, and the growth in the past year too reached 5 per cent. Overflight kilometres rose by 6 per cent. Growth in the transpolar route used for overflights between western Europe and Asia slightly exceeded 9 per cent. The primary companies using this link between Europe and the Far East were Lufthansa, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

Of all the overflights, the most were made by SAS, Lufthansa and Japan Airlines. SAS held by far the largest market share (22 %) of all overflights. Its lead over its nearest contender is considerable, since second-placed Lufthansa accounted for 5 per cent of such flights.

Operational figures remained close to those of 2004, with landings declining by 0.2 per cent, whilst landed tonnage increased by 1 per cent over the previous year.
