COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS
High-quality services for air passengers
Finavia ensures that air passengers receive the services they want at airports, whether it is a question of parking or restaurant services. Income received from Commercial Operations also helps Finavia to provide air traffic services to airlines at an internationally competitive price and to maintain the entire network of airports.Finavia’s objective is to offer air passengers a service chain of the best possible quality starting from the moment that they arrive at the airport. The task of the Commercial Operations division formed in December of the year under review is to handle the planning and development of all of the commercial services of Finavia’s airports in a centralised manner. Finavia’s network of airports is now treated as a whole, whereas previously commercial services were developed separately at each airport.
Commercial Operations is responsible for shops, kiosks and restaurant services at airports, as well as parking, meeting and advertising spaces. The services are mainly provided by partners, but Finavia coordinates and develops the service package. As an airport operator, Finavia’s challenge is to find the services that best fit the passenger profile of each airport and the high-quality entrepreneurs and partners that provide them. At the same time, Commercial Operations creates the conditions that allow the operations of companies at airports.
Commercial Operations boosts Finavia’s profit and supports the networking principle as well as furthers the provisioning of airline services at internationally competitive prices. One third of Finavia’s income comes from other sources than directly from air traffic charges.
INCREASINGLY VERSATILE AIRPORT SERVICES
Airports are developing into providers of an increasingly versatile package of services. Large airports provide as many services as a small town. Dozens of different shops operate at Helsinki-Vantaa, with products ranging from branded clothes, electronics, books, cosmetics and jewellery to design products and utility articles. There are many different types of restaurants, bars and cafés all the way from an Irish pub to an international wine bar. It is also possible to, for example, visit a hairdresser and go to the chemist’s at the airport.Finavia is continually developing the commercial services of its airports in cooperation with the companies operating at the airport. All of the airport’s operations are based on the needs and wishes of air passengers. Each airport receives support from Commercial Operations for the development of its own commercial activities. The objective is to improve internal efficiency and familiarity with international trends and concepts, and thus to respond better to the needs of international clientele.
