We enable the sum of good things

The maintenance and development of airports are at the core of Finavia’s business. We promote the mobility and internationalisation of Finnish society by producing safe, cost-efficient, high-quality services for air traffic and passengers. Our network covers 20 airports across Finland.

Aviation is a joint effort of thousands of players, who must work in sync to ensure efficient, safe connections from Finland to the rest of the world. Finavia plays an essential role in this endeavour, where countless small details must be in order. That is how our business enables the sum of good things.

Our customers include carriers, passengers and service providers at airports. We ensure smooth and safe traffic for passengers. Our responsibilities include the planning and construction of airport infrastructure as well as airport maintenance. Maintenance includes, for example, communication, lighting and heating at airports, traffic arrangements, security control, and signs and information desks at terminals.

We are also responsible for the planning, construction and maintenance of runways and other air traffic infrastructure. Finavia is world-famous for its expertise with snow.

We rent out commercial and office space at airports to companies providing services to carriers and passengers. We cooperate with service providers to improve the level and coverage of services at airports.

Finavia’s airport business comprises two areas: Helsinki Airport and network airports. As of April 1, 2017, air navigation business has been incorporated into its own company and turned over to ANS Finland Oy, which offers air navigation services in Finland.

Most of our revenue comes from air traffic fees, such as landing and passenger fees, rental return and parking fees. Finavia’s operations are not supported through taxation.

Airport operation is a strictly regulated business. Finavia’s cost structure, investments and operations are governed by international and national regulations, particularly those pertaining to safety and the environment.

Helsinki Airport is an important European hub and the leading transfer airport between Europe and Asia. The airport has won several international awards and recognitions for its excellent services.

Regional airports in the Finavia network are the gateway between Finland and the world. Airports in Lapland have aided the rise of Finnish tourism and made the region world-famous.
