Airport's Christmas checklist

Holiday season is traditionally very busy time in air traffic.

Please arrive well in time at the airport. Reserve enough time for parking, baggage drop, security check and for eating, drinking, and shopping to get a smooth start for your holidays.

How to pack Christmas food

Pack all Christmas foodstuffs and drinks in cargo hold luggage. These include for example:

  • bakes, cakes and other pastries
  • foods containing curd cheese, butter and mustard
  • canned foods, e.g. roe
  • mulled wine and other drinks

Christmas star pastries, gingerbread and confectionaries are allowed onboard as hand baggage.

Travelling through Helsinki Airport

During Christmas and New Year, the Helsinki Airport is open as usual. However, some of the shops, restaurants, cafés and other services might have exceptional Christmas time opening hours. Opening hours of restaurants and services at airports can be found on their own pages:

With an advance reservation, you will also make sure that you have a parking space in your preferred parking area.

At Helsinki Airport, a cloakroom service is available. Our travel service Excess Baggage offers bag storage, secure bag wrapping services, and printing services in the Arrivals hall.
