On 15 September, the Swedish airline Nextjet will begin flights between Västerås and Helsinki.

– Västerås Airport is situated in the Mälaren region, where many Finnish-born people reside. They will now have an easy connection with Helsinki and the rest of Finland. At the same time, there exists a major business and industry community in the region, with many international connections. These will now be able to shorten their travel time by several hours, says Henning Lindberg, Head of Sales and Marketing at Nextjet.

The new flight connection serves travellers and the business community in the Mälaren region also towards Asia, as Helsinki Airport offers best long-haul connections in northern Europe.

The route will be operated by three flights from Monday to Friday, one flight on Saturdays and two flights on Sundays. The type of aircraft will be an ATP with seating for 68 passengers.

Ticket sales will open at the end of July. Tickets can be booked on Nextjet’s website and at local travel agencies.

The Västerås route is operated in cooperation with Finnair and Mälardalen's Chamber of Commerce.
