The Finnish Travel Gala organised by the Association of Finnish Travel Agents recently recognised a number of Finland’s most accomplished and popular travel companies, operators and destinations. Finavia’s efforts as a responsible travel industry operator have not gone unnoticed.

Organised on 4 October, the Finnish Travel Gala was attended by nearly 400 Finnish and international travel industry professionals. Finavia and Finavia’s responsibility efforts won the Business Travel Act of the Year award granted by the Finnish Business Travel Association (FBTA).

FBTA commented on the reasons for choosing Finavia as the winner of the award as follows: “Business travellers are an important target group for Finavia, and the company has a strong focus on services for frequent travellers. Finavia’s approach to responsibility includes the environment, safety, employee well-being as well as financial profitability. In the area of environmental responsibility, Finavia’s determined efforts saw it achieve carbon neutrality ahead of schedule. Finavia is an important partner for various operators both locally and internationally.”

“We are pleased to be recognised for our efforts to promote sustainable development, which has considerable significance for society. All of our airports are now carbon neutral and we also support our partners operating at Finavia airports in their efforts to promote sustainable travel,” says Vice President Petri Vuori, who received the award on Finavia’s behalf.

The winners of the various award categories were selected based on scoring that included the number of mentions by the public as well as qualitative assessments by the jury of the awards gala.

The Finnish Travel Gala aims to highlight the significance of the travel industry in Finnish society, not only in terms of providing jobs and boosting the economy, but also by providing experiences and making daily life easier for those who travel frequently for work. The travel industry accounts for a direct share of 2.6 per cent of the Finnish GDP, which makes it a significant industry in Finland.
