The Helsinki Metropolitan Area coronavirus coordination group has updated the regional face mask recommendation on the basis of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare’s policy. According to specialists’ assessment, we can move from the general face mask recommendation to wearing it at our own discretion.

Health care authorities still recommend wearing a face mask if it benefits your health or that of your family. Wearing a face mask is permitted and recommended at your discretion at airports, especially in congested situations, as the coronavirus is still circulating.

Wearing face masks may still be recommended or compulsory on flights and in different countries. We request passengers to check the instructions related to wearing a face mask from airlines and the websites of the destination country’s airport. We will be waiving the use of face masks at our airports from 21 April 2022. Public announcements will also end. Removing instructions and signs on face masks from the terminal premises will take some time as there are thousands of them.

We thank passengers and the entire airport staff for taking others into consideration and for their joint contribution to our health security. Throughout the COVID-19 period, the mask wearing rate has been almost 100%.
