Tampere Airport will hold on to its status as a key airport. The low-cost airline Ryanair has announced that it will continue operating flights between Tampere Airport and Budapest in the spring.

“I am very pleased that Ryanair will continue flying from Tampere Airport. We have worked together with the Pirkanmaa region to have Ryanair continue operating flights between Tampere Airport and Budapest. We are still working with them to establish much-needed additional flight connections. Direct and regular flights to and from Budapest will significantly benefit both the Pirkanmaa region’s business community and those who enjoy city breaks,” says Mari Nurminen, Finavia's Area Director and Airport Manager at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport.

“Ryanair continuing to fly from Tampere Airport is a good sign that tells us that there is demand for flights from the airport,” Nurminen adds.

Flights between Tampere Airport and Budapest will be operated twice a week. The flights will depart from Tampere Airport on Wednesdays at 10:05 p.m. and on Sundays at 8:25 p.m. The return flights from Budapest will arrive at Tampere Airport on Wednesdays at 09:40 p.m. and on Sundays at 08:00 p.m.

Flights to and from Budapest will start on 29 March 2020. The flights can already be booked from the Ryanair website.

Finavia will continue negotiations with Ryanair and other airlines to open new routes. Along with Helsinki Airport and Turku Airport, Tampere Airport is an important airport that has excellent, regular connections to not only Helsinki but also Stockholm and Riga. Tampere Airport also offers flights to various package holiday destinations.

“We have invested more than EUR 20 million in the development of Tampere Airport. Thanks to the development and renovation project of the airport’s air traffic area, which was completed last year, the airport is in good condition as the terminals’ customer facilities and services were also improved a few years ago. In November, we will introduce a new flight procedure that uses a satellite-based navigation system. Thanks to the system, landings will be even smoother, even in poor weather – for example, when it is foggy or snowing,” says Nurminen.
