At Kuopio airport, the so-called head part of the unused air traffic control tower will be taken down.

The old traffic control tower at Kuopio airport was built in the 1970s. During an inspection, the head of the tower was found to be in a poor state and it will be demolished. After the demolition, an ordinary roofing structure will be installed in place of the old head.

Air traffic controllers currently work in the newer air traffic control that was built in 2008. The new tower at the airport is functioning normally.

The construction site has no effect on air traffic or passenger flow at the airport.

Demolition works start on 17 July and take about one month to complete.
