The European Commission has confirmed that the new Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced on 12 October 2025. In Finland, the Finnish Border Guard is responsible for implementing the system.

According to Finnish Border Guard, the Entry/Exit System will improve the quality and efficiency of border checks. Furthermore, it offers the authorities of the Member States up-to-date and reliable information about non-EU nationals’ entries, exits and residence in the Schengen area.

EES at airports

The Finnish Border Guard states that the EES will be implemented at border control points with a six-month transition period. During this time, new procedures will be introduced and stabilized. The transition phase allows authorities, the travel industry, and passengers time to adapt to the changes. Finavia will support the Finnish Border Guard at its airports through terminal space arrangements and passenger guidance.
