Helsinki Airport apron renovation

Finavia's three-year renovation project of the apron at Helsinki Airport was completed at the end of December 2020. The project cost more than EUR 30 million and the construction site corresponded to 17 football fields.

The exceptionally large-scale renovation project will ensure smooth taxiing and positioning of aircraft and increase the capacity and efficiency of air traffic well into the future. During the three-year renovation, Finavia renewed aircraft parking spaces, improved taxiway connections and increased de-icing capacity.

Significant investments in the promotion of the climate programme and investments in water protection were also central to the project. As part of the taxiway renovation, Finavia replaced about 500 centre line and stop lights with LED technology, improving energy efficiency.

Some of the parking stands were equipped with sturdy protective structures and drains that enable aircraft anti-icing and de-icing so that the glycol used in the operation does not enter the ground.
