Helsinki Airport has been ranked second in the Northern European airport category of the international Skytrax survey.  The airport staff and overall travelling comfort were highlighted as particular strengths of Helsinki Airport.

Air traffic arrangements, cleanliness and dining opportunities as well as baggage drop were also commended. These sub-areas were graded as being in the top ten among all the airports in the world.

The staff at the airport received especially good marks, as they were assessed as being the sixth best worldwide.

- We want to continue to be a popular transit traffic airport also in the future. It is our aim to continue developing the competitiveness of Helsinki Airport further and ensure smooth travel and a pleasurable travelling experience for all our customers, says Ville Haapasaari, Helsinki Airport’s director at Finavia.

Finavia Corporation has launched a development programme at Helsinki Airport intended to maintain good flight connections between Finland and the rest of the world and to improve Helsinki Airport's position in in an international operating environment that is becoming increasingly competitive.

The development programme reaching up to 2020 focuses on increasing travel capacity and improving the traffic infrastructure. Measures to be taken within the next few months include increasing check-in automation, speeding up security checks and renewing shopping and restaurant services.

The terminal and air traffic infrastructure will be significantly expanded in the coming years.  With the programme, the airport is preparing to serve 20 million passengers within six years.

In the recent international comparison by Skytrax, Helsinki Airport was selected as the second best Nordic airport.  In the ranking of the best airports in the world, Helsinki Airport was ranked 19th.

The annual Skytrax comparison assessed over 400 airports from all over the world based on 39 different indicators. The results are based on the views of almost 13 million passengers. Previously, Helsinki Airport has won the title of best Nordic airport.  This year, that award went to Copenhagen Airport.
