This year marks the 150th anniversary of Jean Sibelius' birth. The occasion is celebrated around the globe, Helsinki Airport included.

Jean Sibelius (8 December 1865 – 20 September 1957) is Finland's internationally best-known and most played composer. This year is the 150th anniversary of his birth.

Helsinki Airport's Art Gallery is commemorating this with the exhibition Sibelius & Images from Finland.

Unique exhibition at Gate 37

The exhibition displays art by three Finnish photographic artists, Heikki Aho, Björn Soldan, and Claire Aho. The works of art on show cover the wide variety of their production, spanning over half a century.

Photographs of Sibelius are part of this unique collection that consists of five separate sections and a total of 230 images, and the majority of the Sibelius photographs have been taken at his home in Ainola.

Seven symphonies form the core of Sibelius' production. In addition to these, he is particularly appreciated for his Violin Concerto and orchestral works, among which Finlandia, Karelia Suite, The Swan of Tuonela, and Valse Triste are certainly worth mention.

Art 24/7

The Sibelius & Images from Finland exhibition is open every day around the clock through the end of 2015. All passengers departing or arriving via gate area 32-38 can freely visit and admire these works of art.

Art Gallery is located at Gate 37. It is part of the ArtPort concept launched by Finavia.
