During the past few days, several first flights have been celebrated at Tampere-Pirkkala Airport, as airlines have started new routes. Flights are now available from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport to 10 different European destinations in addition to six weekly flights to Helsinki Airport.

“We are pleased about the resumption of international flights from Tampere. Business travellers and holidaymakers from the Tampere region can now fly from their local airport directly to the heart of Europe,” says Mari Nurminen, Vice President, Central and Eastern Airports and the Director of Tampere-Pirkkala Airport at Finavia.

The Latvian airline Air Baltic has allocated one of its aircraft to Tampere Airport to launch flights to seven new destinations in May 2022: Oslo in Norway, Copenhagen in Denmark, Frankfurt and Munich in Germany, and the sunny destinations of Malaga in Spain and Rhodes in Greece.

Flights to Riga, the capital of Latvia, will also continue. In June 2022, Air Baltic will start direct flights to Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

The opening of Air Baltic’s new base was celebrated at Tampere Airport on 2 May 2022.

“An international airline establishing a base at Tampere Airport creates tremendous opportunities for the region. It also represents a significant milestone in the long cooperation between Finavia and Air Baltic,” Nurminen adds.

Tampere Airport is ready for new connections

The increase in flight connections from Tampere Airport is the result of a long-term effort.

“At Finavia, we increase international awareness of Finland and engage in discussions with airlines and regional operators. Good connections from Finland to the world and vice versa are important, and we work to ensure that Finns have access to the best flight connections in Europe,” says Petri Vuori, Senior Vice President, Sales and Route Development at Finavia.

In addition to Air Baltic, Finnair and SAS are also opening new routes from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport. On 2 May, Finnair started operating six weekly flights from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport to Helsinki Airport. SAS will operate 11 direct flights between Tampere-Pirkkala Airport and Stockholm Arlanda in May, and the airline has announced that flights on the same routes will continue in August 2022.

Ryanair operates two weekly flights (Tuesdays and Saturdays) from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport to London Stansted.

“Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is ready to serve a growing number of flights. Thanks to the investment programme we carried out a few years ago, the airport now has higher capacity, improved conditions for flight operations and reduced environmental impacts. Tampere-Pirkkala Airport provides a pleasant and convenient starting point for a trip,” Nurminen concludes.
