"We have positive experiences of the competitive tendering for taxi ranks at Kuopio Airport. The competitive tendering has ensured the availability of taxis even during peak times when an aircraft arrives or departs. The aim is to make arriving at and departing from the airport smoother," says Raija Niskanen, Finavia’s Airport Manager for Kuopio Airport.
Separate lanes, located in front of the terminal’s main entrance, are reserved for the cars of the contracted companies at Kuopio Airport.
The taxis of non-contracted companies may use the designated area near the airport. In addition, Kuopio Airport has its own waiting area for pre-booked taxis.
The tendering does not deny other taxi companies the opportunity to pick up and drop off passengers at the airport. Passengers will continue to be free to choose the taxi company they wish to use.
Competitive tendering for contracted taxi companies
Finavia has carried out competitive tendering for the use of taxi ranks at Kuopio Airport since 2023. The aim of the competitive tendering is to ensure that taxis are available according to customers’ needs. The tendering criteria includes the taxi company's ability to offer a good level of service and the ability to ensure that taxis are available at the airport according to the schedules of scheduled flights.
Finavia does not include the customer prices of taxis in the tendering process. Instead, the taxi companies will be responsible for their own pricing.
The contract with Meininki Yhtiöt Oy will be valid until July 2027 and contains an option for a one-year extension.
