The Finnish Lapland Tourist Board ry has granted Finavia the Lapland tourism award of 2019. This year’s award was focused on promoting the accessibility of Lapland.

Finavia has invested in services for international passengers through significant extensions to the airports of Rovaniemi, Kittilä and Ivalo. The total value of the investments is nearly EUR 100 million. Finavia is also engaged in solid cooperation with airlines to open new routes and develop existing air traffic.

Palkinnon vastaanotto

Finavia's Northern Finland Director Veli-Pekka Pitkänen accepted the award on 26 September at the Lapland Tourism Parliament seminar in Tornio.

“I’m greatly honored and pleased to accept this award. In recent years, we’ve worked hard to develop the airports in Lapland and to improve the customer experience. Our investments have gone towards expanding the airports of Rovaniemi, Kittilä and Ivalo. The accessibility of Lapland is highly important in terms of tourism and business. We hope to enable as many people as possible to enjoy the wonderful nature and diverse activities Lapland has to offer,” says Pitkänen.

“Tourism in Lapland is facing rapid growth, and international tourists already account for more than 50% of registered overnight stays. In heavy global competition, great accessibility and air traffic in particular are absolutely vital prerequisites for the growth of tourism in Lapland,” says Executive Director Nina Forsell from the Finnish Lapland Tourist Board ry.

The Lapland Tourism Parliament is organised by Finnish Lapland Tourist Board ry (LME) in cooperation with the Regional Council of Lapland, the Multidimensional Tourism Institute and Vocational College Lappia.
