Finavia will commence co-operation negotiations, which aim to adjust the operations of the airport to the changed traffic situation.

Air traffic on the Savonlinna Airport, operated by Finavia, has been at a standstill since the beginning of October. It is currently not known when the traffic will resume.

The negotiations will apply to all Finavia personnel working at the airport, in other words approximately 10 people.

Due to interruption of flights, the employer is planning to adjust the operations to the changed situation. This may entail, for example, lay-offs.

Background information about traffic in Savonlinna

Air traffic between Savonlinna and Helsinki has been based on purchased traffic funded by the Government and the City of Savonlinna. On 9 September 2014, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced that it will launch negotiations with the Hungarian Budapest Aircraft Service on operating the flight connection.

Before the interruption of traffic, the Savonlinna Airport had in all 8,900 passengers this year (1–9/2014). This is 4.1 per cent less than the corresponding period the previous year.
