This year, the busiest days for Christmas traffic at Helsinki Airport are during the weekend before Christmas and weekend following Christmas. At these times, it is recommended that sufficient time is reserved for parking, luggage drop-in and security control.

You should come well in advance to the airport, if your flight leaves from Terminal 2

  • on 19 Dec. in the morning between 7 and 9 a.m. or in the afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m.
  • on 20 Dec. in the morning between 7 and 9 a.m. or in the afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m.
  • on 22 Dec. in the morning between 7 and 9 a.m.
  • on 26 Dec. in the morning between 7 and 9 a.m. or in the afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m.
  • on 27 Dec. in the morning between 7 and 9 a.m.

How to pack Christmas foods

Pack all foodstuffs (such as Christmas bakes, cakes and other pastries, foods containing curd cheese, frozen foods, canned foods as well as mulled wine and other drinks) in cargo hold luggage.

Christmas star pastries, gingerbread and confectioneries are allowed on-board as hand luggage.

Security check instructions

Advance check-in

You can check in online in advance on your airline’s website. Some airlines at Helsinki Airport allow checking in your luggage on the previous evening.

You may also check in using the check-in machine at the airport. Luggage will also be handled as self-service with the bag-drop machine.

Opening hours during Christmas

During Christmas and New Year, the terminals at Helsinki Airport are open 24/7. Some of the shops, cafés and other services are closed on the evening of Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day.

Other Finavia airports are open depending on the air traffic schedules. Opening hours can be checked at the website of each airport.

Parking at the airport

Before departing for Helsinki Airport, you can check parking prices and the availability of parking spaces at various parking facilities on our website. You may also check the parking situation either from the displays at the entryways or your mobile device.

Cloakroom for winter clothing

At Helsinki Airport, you can leave your winter clothing during you holiday in the sun with the cloakroom service (Airpro Travel Services 24 h) located on the ground floor of terminal 2.

You can also store items in the lockers found in terminal 1 and 2. Storage time is max. 8 days. For the storage services on the other airports, please go to the airport’s website.
