Winter holidays begin in Southern Finland this coming weekend. Passengers will flock to Helsinki Airport, ready to travel all around the world. The airport’s own HELpers will be out and about the airport on 17 and 20 February, helping travellers.

The winter holidays bring with them a multitude of passengers. Many of them have large amounts of luggage and a significant portion travel with their children. We recommend that you reserve more time than usual for your passage through the airport.

HELpers assist families travelling with children on 17 and 20 February

Helsinki Airport is showing special consideration for the younger passengers.

During the afternoons of Friday, 17 and Monday, 20 February, Helsinki Airport’s HELpers will assist and guide outgoing passengers in the departure halls and the gate area. Their focus is especially on families that travel with children, helping them with their luggage, completing their check-ins and finding the right gate.

You can identify HELpers by their white hats and t-shirts that feature Helsinki Airport's own guide for children, Lenni.

Tips for families travelling with children and activities for the young

Pack your ski and snow equipment correctly

Do not carry any ski wax removers, fluorinated ski wax, heaters or lock antifreeze. They are not allowed onboard. Please also check your ski bags for these items.

Pack skis and boards in appropriate transport bags. Remove all old tags and loose ends. Tie straps and other cords together to prevent them from getting stuck in the baggage conveyors.

Please notify if you will be carrying an avalanche rescue backpack when you book your flight or, at the latest, at check-in, as you will need permission of the airline to carry it. Carry the avalanche rescue pack and cylinders in the same location. You can either carry them onboard or as checked baggage.

The airbags in the rescue pack must be fitted with pressure relief valves.
