Fringes and tassels. Leather. Blue, yellow, and red. Polka dots and stripes. Animal prints and floral patterns. These are just a few examples of this summer's sure-fire fashion trends.

Not everybody is into trends, however. Even working in fashion and design is no guarantee: Daniel Palillo is a fashion designer from Helsinki with fans all over the world, from Tokyo to New York, but he couldn't care less about what is officially fashionable and trendy. One of his better-known fans happens to be a certain Lady Gaga...

This issue of Via Helsinki focuses on fashion, with stories about both trends and Palillo's anti-trend views. Our feature story offers you a whole alphabet's worth of facts about Vogue's famous editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has the power to make anything fashionable or ensure that any name is on everybody's lips.

What is wonderful about fashion is that some of the power lies with us consumers – or perhaps most of it? Our choices and buying habits ultimately determine what’s IN or OUT.

At Helsinki Airport, we have worked hard to ensure that you get plenty of opportunities to wield this power while waiting for your flight. This summer, we are going to unveil some of our all-new shopping experiences, with HUGO BOSS, for example, opening a shop at our airport.

Another new shopping opportunity at Helsinki Airport is offered by the World Duty Free Group, already familiar to many air passengers. They have shops in over a hundred airports, in 20 countries.

In fact, Helsinki Airport's shopping world is, in a way, very similar to fashion itself: often the best things are born out of something trusted and familiar blended with something surprising and extraordinary. Alongside many well-known international names, we offer our passengers the best of Finnish design. So, how about Marimekko's iconic poppy pattern in a stylish clutch? This beauty is waiting for you at the Helsinki Airport, together with many other summery products!

You are now reading the last printed issue of Via Helsinki. In the future, we will offer you inspiration and information through our online version, available at www.helsinkiairport.fi. Helsinki Airport's complimentary Wi-Fi connection helps you read our stories quickly and free of charge.

We wish you all a nice hot summer!
