Finavia reached an important goal at Ivalo Airport when the new section of the terminal was taken into use on Wednesday, 13 May. At the same time, the renovation project of the old terminal started.

“We are pleased that we gained more space for passengers with the extension. The first passengers entered the brand-new terminal just before Ascension Day,” says Finavia's regional manager for Lapland, Martti Oinas.

With the introduction of the extension, check-in, luggage handover and security check relocated to the new section. Also, a restaurant will be opened in the extension.

The old part of the terminal will continue to be used for gate operations, but its renovation project will begin now that the new section has been taken into use. The renovation work will continue until November.

“According to our plans, the project will be finalised just before the winter season,” Oinas says.

After the renovation project is fully completed, the travelling experience will be even smoother and more comfortable especially during high season. Finavia will also prepare the airport for increasing traffic volumes.

Finavia's investment in tourism in Lapland is valued at a total of EUR 13.5 million.

In addition to Ivalo, Finavia is committed to investing in other airports in Lapland. At Rovaniemi Airport, the terminal will be renovated taking its functioning, look and comfort to a new level during 2015. In August, the air traffic area will be renovated at Kittilä Airport, which was recently renovated.
