The train connection between Helsinki Airport and Helsinki city center helps getting around within the whole capital area. Passengers can use the train for the price of the regional ticket.

The airport train rides along the new Ring Rail line, shaped like a heart, and stops at all the stations on the route. The travel time from Helsinki city to the airport by train is approximately 30 minutes. The travel time by a taxi is about the same, but the train costs only 5 Euros - the amount of a normal regional ticket.

The regional ticket is valid not only in Helsinki, but in the whole metropolitan region including the cities of Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen. The ticket is valid for 80 minutes in trains, buses, trams, metro and even in the Suomenlinna ferry.

If you are staying in the capital region for longer, you can also get a ticket for several days. More information about the tickets of public transportation is available on the HSL website.

Sightseeing along the Ring Rail Line

The opening of the Ring Rail Line brings many of the popular sights to only a train ride away.

The train takes you for example to the Aviation museum located next to the Aviapolis station, to Heureka, a popular science center in Tikkurila and to the Expo and Convention Center in Pasila.

Malmi Airport and Falkulla animal farm are located only within walking distance from Malmi and Tapanila train stations. If you want to experience nature in the middle of Helsinki, you can get off the train in Huopalahti and walk to the central park. In the winter the park fills with ski trails.

The end stop of the Ring Rail Line is Helsinki Central Railway Station. The whole city center and its most popular tourist attractions are located around the station. Within walking distance, you can find for example the beautiful Senate Square and the museum of contemporary art Kiasma – not to mention all the best cafés, restaurants and shopping opportunities in the heart of Helsinki!

Ask the locals for directions and tips

The trains that operate to Helsinki airport are normal regional trains, so they are used by a number of commuters also.

Many Finns speak English well, so don’t hesitate to ask the locals for help or hints on what to do in the capital region. Even though Finns tend to sit quietly by themselves on the train, they are delighted to help!
