Keeping the whole family’s stomachs full is a good way to avoid tantrums and feuds on the plane.

Everyone who’s ever traveled with kids knows that food is highly important in avoiding family feuds. Thankfully, there are many restaurants at the airport that will help keep both kids and adults content.

Café Tori (Gates 26–27)

For breakfast, Tori’s staff makes a delicious and nutritious whole wheat porridge, which you can enjoy with jam and butter.

During lunch hour families can select from a variety of puréed vegetable soups served with freshly-baked buns. They can also sample the lasagne with fresh vegetables on the side. For dessert, some Tori family favorites include the pancakes with homemade strawberry jam and fresh berry smoothies.

If you wish to grab a healthy snack for the kids, Tori offers prune purée, yoghurts and fruit cups. There’s also a children’s play area nearby to keep the little ones entertained.

Bistrot Helsinki (Terminal 2, arrivals area 2A)

At the Italian-style Bistrot you can enjoy fresh bread, pizza and pastries baked in the restaurant’s own oven. Bistrot favors organic and locally-produced ingredients and offers a range of pasta and salad dishes as well as drinks. The seating area is large and can fit even a larger extended family; there’s room to park the baby stroller next to the table.

The restaurant is also right next to Burger King and the seating area is shared, so everyone in the family will find something good to eat here.

O’Leary’s (Gate 29, 3rd floor)

A sport restaurant for the whole family, O’Leary’s has a special kids’ menu where children can choose from a range of options.

For instance, the Green Monster Burger is a long-time favorite amongst children, along with classic Fish & Chips and Chicken Nuggets with Fries. For those with a sweet tooth, the delicious vanilla sundaes are worth ordering.

Freshly Made (Gate 27)

As airlines have cut down their food offerings, it’s wise to buy some snacks and drinks from the airport after you’ve made it past security check.

Freshly Made is a small but handy little take-away café near Gate 27, offering delicious sandwiches, freshly-squeezed juices and great coffees for the adults. Stop here to grab a quick bite for you and kids before your flight leaves.
