Finavia has begun construction work to extend the border control premises at Helsinki Airport and to increase the capacity of passport control. The objective is to ensure smooth and fast connections.

The new extension will provide 2,400 square metres of additional space on two floors. The capacity will grow approximately by 50%. The premises will be completed by the summer of 2019.

The number of passport booths will increase from the current 30 to 48. Two of them will be completed already in the summer of 2018. The number of the machines will increase from 30 to 41.

The planning work accounts for any possible future extensions to border control premises in such a way that their implementation will be as easy as possible.

The extension is part of the large-scale development programme at Helsinki Airport.

Helsinki Airport is preparing for growth

The aim of Finavia’s development programme, worth EUR 900 million, is to strengthen the position of Helsinki Airport in both the international competition between airports and as a significant air traffic hub between Europe and Asia. An internationally competitive airport is important for the wellbeing of all of Finland and helps to maintain good flight connections for Finns to all destinations around the world. The extension will allow the airport to serve 30 million passengers a year.

You can find more information about the development programme on Finavia's website.
