The disruption in the baggage handling system at Helsinki Airport has been resolved. The processing of outbound checked baggage was partially suspended on Sunday, 15 June 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m. due to a false alarm and activation of the fire‑suppression system. The airport rescue services responded immediately and confirmed that the alarm was unfounded.
The baggage system was back in operation by around 4:45 p.m., and check‑in and baggage handling have been functioning normally since then.
The incident affected the processing of checked baggage for departing passengers between approximately 3:00 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
Finavia immediately activated its backup system for checked baggage handling, allowing some bags to still make their flights on time. However, the switch caused delays in baggage processing and check‑in, and some checked bags did not make their flights.
After the system was restored, any bags left behind on afternoon flights were fed back into the baggage system for security screening and X‑ray inspection in accordance with EU regulations. Airlines will deliver any delayed baggage to their customers; for inquiries, please contact your airline.
Finavia apologizes for the inconvenience caused by this event.
