At Finavia's airports, children can go through check-in, security control and passport control together with their parent. Children can also take a dear toy with them to, for example, security control. For flights and any periods of waiting, it is a good idea to pack books, games or other entertainment suitable for little passengers.
Required travel documents
Children must also have their own passport when travelling. In addition to the passport, you may also need other documents required by the destination country, such as a visa. Up-to-date information about travel documents is available on the websites of your destination country’s authorities and from the airline. For example, the Finnair website provides information about the required travel documents.

Prams and pushchairs
With regard to prams, the practices vary according to the airline. For this reason, you should check the additional information from the airline either in advance or during check-in.
Pushchairs and prams that will go in the plane’s hold must be packed in a protective bag. Some airlines offer passengers a protective bag at check-in.
If you have to leave your own pushchair at check-in, little passengers can continue their journey in the terminal using a pushchair provided by the airport.
Security control
All passengers go through security control at the airport, which is why it is a good idea to discuss what will happen during security control with the children in advance. If necessary, the security control employees will provide instructions on matters related to the security control process, and the personnel will be happy to help if passengers have questions about their own security control.
All the items you are carrying, including the beloved soft toys, go through the x-ray scanner in their own tray. Baby food, pushchairs and baby carriers are also screened in accordance with the security officers' instructions. As a rule, passengers walk through the metal detector gate one person at a time. However, small children can walk through the gate together with their parent or they can be carried through the gate in their parent's arms. Anyone, including children, may be required to go through additional security checks in accordance with the regulations issued by the authorities. These are part of the normal security control process, and the security officers will guide the situation while taking the child’s needs into account.
At Helsinki Airport, the security control for departing passengers has a separate line for families which can be used by passengers travelling with children under 7 years of age. The line for families is open from early morning to late at night. Its purpose is to make proceeding to the security control with small children smoother. When the line for families is in use, a guide will be there to guide passengers to the correct security control line. You can identify the line for families by the "Assisted" sign. The same line can be used by passengers with special needs, such as reduced mobility or a non-visible disability.
Bringing baby food on a flight
Baby food can be passed through security control, where it must be taken out of hand baggage for the duration of the security control. You may carry the amount of baby food and liquids you will need during your flight in your hand baggage. A baby is considered to be a child under two years of age who travels on an infant ticket and who does not have a seat on board.
