A 11-hour direct flight whisks you to the ever-popular beach destination.

Miami is best known for its legendary sandy beaches, guaranteed sunshine, and nostalgic Art Deco architecture.

Another well-known feature of Miami is its cuisine, bringing together many tastes from the Americas, especially the Caribbean.

In many parts of this city, Spanish might seem more useful than English. Its Cuban quarter, Little Havana, is home to many clubs playing salsa into the wee hours, and many eagerly await the colourful Calle Ocho street festival, next held on 15 March 2015.

Beach sports are an integral part of life near Miami Beach; those who dare hire a surfboard, or a calmer pace can be had with full-moon yoga sessions.

And if you get tired of beach life, there’s always the famous Venetian Pool, built in the ’20s.

Another attraction of Miami Beach is its entirely Art-Deco-style neighbourhood, a unique place where the pastel shades of hundreds of houses built in the ’30s and ’40s shine in the sun.

Miami offers endless shopping opportunities. South Beach’s Lincoln Road is a shopping street where you can find almost anything, and nearby Sawgrass Mills is the country’s biggest outlet mall.

Interesting things to see within reasonable distance of Miami

With enough time on your hands, you could drive a rental car to Walt Disney World, in Orlando, or to Key West, the southernmost tip of the United States – only about 3.5 hours away.

You’ll never forget the drive to Key West as the narrow road winds along the turquoise sea. Once you get there, you could stop to admire Ernest Hemingway’s colonial-style house and the six-toed cats living there, said to be the only ones in existence.

And with a bit more time, why not extend your visit and go on a Caribbean cruise, or beyond? All major cruise lines have terminals at Miami’s well-appointed port.

With its partners, Finnair offers direct flights to Miami up to three times a week during the winter season (from 16 December 2014 to 21 March 2015).
