The Air Force’s anniversary air show at Jyväskylä airport will be held in the summer of 2018. The airport has a long history of serving as a military airport.

In 2018, 100 years will have passed since the Finnish Air Force was founded. The Air Force will celebrate it’s centenary by organizing a spectacular air show at Jyväskylä Airport on 16–17 June 2018.

Jyväskylä Airport was originally built as a base for the Air Force in 1939. Today, the majority of the airport’s traffic still comes from the flight training of the Air Force Academy, which is located nearby at Tikkakoski. The airport also serves on a broad scale the lively university city of Jyväskylä and the municipality of Central Finland.

The last air show in Jyväskylä was held in 2001.

"Fighter aircraft being considered to replace the Hornet are expected to be seen at the event next summer, as well as multiple aerobatics teams. This will be a great and spectacular event,” says Finavia’s Esa Kainulainen, Airport Manager at Jyväskylä Airport.

The event is organized by The Finnish Aeronautical Association, which has a long history of organizing air shows. The association has organized an air show in different parts of Finland every year since 1920. This summer, the air show was held at Seinäjoki.
