Spanish airline Iberia will almost double the number of flights on its Madrid-Rovaniemi route next winter. The route, which opened in December 2023, has been a success for tourism in Lapland. The number of passengers arriving on Iberia flights to Lapland is expected to increase significantly with the increased number of flights.

"The route has been very popular and a success for tourism in Lapland. It is great that Iberia has decided to continue the connection for a longer period and with increased flights. Direct routes are very important for Finland's accessibility and we are actively working to develop them," says Petri Vuori, Director of Route Development at Finavia.

The route will be operated next winter from November 30th 2024 to March 1st 2025. There will be four weekly flights in December on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. In January and February there will be two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The number of flights will increase by almost half compared to last winter. Iberia offers more than 12,000 seats on its flights from Madrid to Rovaniemi, an increase of 74% compared to last winter.

Flights are available for booking from Iberia's website.

"Spain is the fifth largest market in terms of accommodation statistics in Rovaniemi. The number of overnight stays has grown strongly in recent winter seasons, reaching 32,300, which is half of the total number of Spanish visitors to Lapland. In the coming winter season, the Spanish demand for Rovaniemi has further strengthened, and Iberia's route connection will support the growth," says Sanna Kärkkäinen, CEO of Visit Rovaniemi.
