Did you know that life in Lapland follows the rhythm of eight seasons? While most places recognize four seasons, the cycle of nature in Lapland is divided into several distinct periods. One of these special moments is the harvest season, which takes place in late summer – just before the vibrant colors of autumn arrive.

During harvest time, the nights gradually grow darker, and nature offers up the delicacies that have ripened over the summer. Berries and mushrooms attract both animals and people to the best foraging spots. Cloudberries and bilberries are gathered for winter storage in July and August.

In Finland, everyone has the right to enjoy nature and its offerings. The concept of “everyman’s rights” allows both locals and visitors to pick berries and mushrooms – as long as they treat nature with respect. Harvest season is the perfect time to combine outdoor activity, the tranquility of nature, and culinary experiences in the landscapes of Lapland.
