Helsinki Airport has once again received international recognition in the Skytrax World Airport Awards, being named Best Airport in Northern Europe for the tenth time. Finavia’s Helsinki Airport has consistently ranked among the best airports in its region thanks to its smooth passenger experience, efficient processes and high-quality services.

“We are very proud that passengers have once again chosen Helsinki Airport as the best airport in Northern Europe. This recognition reflects the long-term development work carried out together with the entire airport community to ensure a smooth and pleasant travel experience,” says Laura Inttilä, Senior Vice President, Helsinki Airport, at Finavia.

The award is based on the global World Airport Survey, in which millions of air passengers evaluate airports around the world. The results of the World Airport Awards 2026 were announced at an event held in London on 18 March 2026.

Passenger experience at the core of development

The Skytrax World Airport Awards are among the most respected recognitions in the global aviation industry. The results are based on an independent survey that measures passenger satisfaction with airports across a wide range of service categories, including airport facilities, customer service and the overall travel experience.

Helsinki Airport has been systematically developed with a strong focus on improving passenger experience. The renewal of the terminal areas, extended commercial services and continuous improvements to the passenger journey have contributed to the airport’s strong position among Europe’s leading airports. In recent years, new lounge facilities and restaurant services have been introduced at the airport, and the passenger journey has been further improved with digital solutions such as a security control waiting time forecast. Services are continuously developed with different passenger groups in mind. Most recently, a new restaurant and retail area was opened at Helsinki Airport’s Schengen gate area, combining Nordic brands with an environment inspired by Finnish nature: completed in March 2026 near Gate 30, the area features four new shops and a café-restaurant offering everything from outdoor and fashion products to Finnish flavors and takeaway options.

In addition, Helsinki Airport was recently recognized for the seventh time as the best airport in Europe in the 15–25 million passenger category. The award was presented by Airports Council International, an umbrella organisation for airports.
