Six Russian cities are now within direct reach of Helsinki Airport. New partner S7 Airlines also guarantees excellent connecting flights.

The oneworld alliance airlines and Aeroflot fly to Moscow up to four times a day. Would now be a good time for finally visiting the world-famous Red Square? Moscow has also become a popular destination among gourmets and foodies.

There are two oneworld flights to St Petersburg six days a week. The city is called the Paris of the North for good reason: it boasts wide boulevards, majestic architecture, and the Hermitage Museum – justly described as one of the greatest museums in the world.

New interesting destinations

Alongside the cosmopolitan Moscow and St Petersburg, one can find a more traditional feel of genuine Russia among Helsinki Airport's new Russian destinations.

The alliance flies to Yekaterinburg up to four times a week. With a population of over a million, this city is known for its industry and culture. Its location in the Ural Mountains puts it at the frontier between Europe and Asia. Among its sights is the Cathedral on the Blood, built on the site where the last Russian tsar and his family were murdered.

oneworld airlines fly to Nizhny Novgorod up to three times a week. The city lies some 400 km east of Moscow and has over a million inhabitants. It has worked hard to restore buildings dating from the tsarist era, and the State Bank and the Great Russian Fair building showcase particularly lavish ornamentation.

In August 2014, oneworld opened a direct connection to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, known for both Tatar culture and sporting events. Kazan’s citadel, or Kremlin, is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

There are three weekly oneworld flights to Samara. Built on the banks of the River Volga, Samara was a closed city in Soviet times, but today it is an industrial and financial centre and an important transport hub. Among the most noteworthy sights is Stalin's bunker from the WW2 era, discovered in the ’90s.

The oneworld airlines flying from Helsinki Airport to Russia are Finnair, S7 Airlines, and Japan Airlines.
