The old mercury vapour lights of Helsinki Airport's P5 parking garage will be replaced with LED lights. In addition to saving energy, the replacement will save money.

Replacing the lights will achieve annual energy savings of up to 80% in the electricity consumption of the parking garage. Due to the Ecodesign Directive, the old mercury discharge lights will be taken off the market in 2015, which means that it is high time to replace them with more environmentally friendly LED lights.

The replacement process will begin on 4 September and is expected to be completed in mid-November.
