Finavia will reopen Kittilä Airport to traffic on Monday, 31 August, after a successful runway project. The airport is currently preparing for a busy winter as Lufthansa will commence direct route flights from Munich.

The runway, the taxiways and the apron of Kittilä Airport were resurfaced in August. At the same time, the safety areas at the ends of the runway were renovated and the rainwater sewer system of the runway was repaired. In addition, additional parking spaces were built in the landside in summer. The value of the investments totals more than EUR 3 million.

The Kittilä region and, in particular, the Levi ski resort raise interest worldwide, which is also indicated by the new direct route between Kittilä and Munich to be opened by Lufthansa next winter. Kittilä will also receive passengers via Helsinki, with more than 30 flights arriving every week during the high winter season.

What is more, more than ten direct flights a week will land at Kittilä Airport from various European locations.

“We are eagerly waiting for the upcoming winter season. We have a complete package now that the interior of the terminal was modernised last year and the newly paved runway ensures safe landings and take-offs. Welcome to Lapland!” wishes airport manager Kari Tohmo at Finavia.

By improving its airports in Lapland, Finavia ensures that air traffic runs smoothly and Lapland is ready to increase its air traffic volumes. In addition to Kittilä, Ivalo is undergoing major changes that will be completed before the winter season. In Rovaniemi, the interior of the airport is being modernised to be clearer and more comfortable.
